GENERATOR INSTALLATION & BACKUP POWER

Rather be
prepared
than not.

Plan ahead for the next power outage with CK Electrical Solutions.

A properly sized generator can help keep essential parts of your home running when utility power is unavailable. Start with what matters most to your household, then choose a backup-power setup that fits your home, electrical system and budget.

POWER FOR THE EVERYDAY ESSENTIALS

Keep the important
things in mind.

01

Food & basic comfort

Plan for refrigeration, lighting and selected outlets. Heating or cooling requires equipment-specific sizing and sufficient starting and running capacity.

02

Communication

Keep phones charged and communications equipment powered when the supporting networks remain available. A generator cannot restore a failed internet or cellular network.

03

Water & pumps

Well and sump pumps may be important priorities. Their starting demand and installation requirements must be included in the load assessment.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT APPROACH

Portable or standby?
Plan before you purchase.

Portable generators

Portable units require outdoor setup, fuel and manual operation. Connecting a generator to home wiring requires professionally installed transfer equipment that isolates the home from utility power. Never connect a generator through a wall outlet.

Standby generators

A properly designed standby system with automatic transfer can start and supply connected circuits during an outage. Supported loads depend on capacity, fuel and system design. Regular testing and maintenance remain part of ownership.

A written installation plan

CK reviews desired circuits, starting and running loads, panel and transfer equipment, location, ventilation and fuel arrangements. The written scope addresses applicable permits, inspections, manufacturer instructions and maintenance needs.

HURRICANE HELENE · NORTH CAROLINA · SEPTEMBER 2024

A reminder to prepare
before the outage.

Helene brought flooding, infrastructure damage and extended outages to western North Carolina. Its impact is a reminder to plan for interrupted power alongside other household emergency needs.

Historical update · October 5, 2024

The North Carolina Governor’s Office reported approximately 173,000 western North Carolina customers still without power at 11:30 a.m. that day, down from a peak of more than one million.

A generator is one part of preparedness. Keep drinking water and emergency supplies, maintain alarms, follow local updates and obey evacuation orders. Backup power does not make a flooded or otherwise unsafe home safe to occupy.

GENERATOR SAFETY

Backup power needs
a safe setup.

Portable generators belong outdoors. Keep portable generators at least 20 feet from the home, doors, windows and vents, with exhaust directed away from occupied buildings. Never run one in a home, garage, basement, crawl space or shed—even with openings. Read CDC generator safety guidance ↗
